Our family has a French bulldog that sheds something fierce. And I am finding that I am spending upwards $50+ every time I have to buy him a bed. Which ends up being very couple of months. So the solution seemed simple to me. Why not make him some doggy bed sheets just like us humans have. I can change them once once a week, take them outside, shake them off and throw them into the laundry. Put a clean one on and he’s good for another week. Simple as that. I have never made a sheet before but with some help from the internet I figured it out. All of my Amazon links to what I used except for fabric will be included.

Fits like a charm.

So let’s go through the measurements.
The pet bed I am using is the Top Paw classic tufted bed.
37 in L x 25 in W x 5 in H
So you you need to figure out how far you want the stretchy bottom part of the sheet to come under the bed. I decided that 5 inches would be best to keep the sheet in place with a dog scratching around on it. So we will add 5 inches to the measurements.
Remember we must add 5 inches on each side for the height and 5 inches to each side for the under stretchy part of the sheet which equals adding 10 to each side. The way this is measured can work for any size bed if you do your math right.
Length = 37+10+10= 57inches
Width =25+10+10=45 inches
So you need to cut your fabric 57 x 45
Once you’ve cut out your fabric, on each corner cut out a 10 in square(in the picture I am doing an 8×8, my fabric was a bit short off the bolt)

All four corners cut out.

Now take the open edges of the square you cut out and fold them together right sides touching and pin. Do this for all the corners.

Starting a little bit above the corner where they com together topstitch down to the open bottom portion. Do this for all four sides.

Now set your sewing machine settings to zig zag on the widest setting and sew down the raw edges making sure to let your needle fall off the right side of the fabric.

Once all for sides have been top stitched and zigzagged now let’s work on the elastic casing. Let’s do a 1/4 inch seem around the whole bottom of the sheet so that when we fold this it will be nice and clean and less likely to unravel.

I will be using 1/4 inch elastic so let’s make sure we have enough room to thread the elastic through when we are done sewing. Lay the elastic down and fold hemmed edge over to check for clearance.

I will sew a 3/4 inch casing all the way around leaving two inches open space to insert the elastic.

I am using a flat weaving needle to thread the elastic. It is very easy to do and goes quickly. Once you’ve threaded all the elastic through the entire casing and out of the other side I tied the elastic ends into a knot several times (like a million) and then stuff the knot into the opening of the casing.

Now sew the casing shut.

Ok let’s try it on!

Look how awesome!

Just imagine having a customized doggy sheet for every occasion. Christmas, New Years, Birthday, Halloween. Oh I’m getting craft happty just thinking about it. Please like and share it means so much to me. Well, until next time, happy crafting!
